Put it All Together and You Have One
Driven Professional With a Quest for Excellence.

If the Minthorne name is known for one thing, it's a continual pursuit of personal betterment. Tracing the family's roots, long before New York City was dubbed "the concrete jungle," the Minthorne family were farmers on the island of Manhattan. Since those days, the Minthorne name ventured westward and back again in search of bigger and better achievements. "I have a lineage of restlessness with purpose," Richard Minthorne jests. "Members of my family have never settled for the status quo. They're pioneers.'

A Pioneering Spirit
Richard knows that inside him, as well, is that pioneering spirit that is his family's defining trait. He's always felt it, from growing up right here in Northern Virginia to the present day. But that's not to say that Richard is simply a carbon copy of his family tree. You see, the family's pioneer spirit and propensity for hard work always earned them a decent living, but Richard's parents wanted more for their son. They never had the opportunity to experience a formal education, and they weren't about to allow that to happen to Richard. "My parents prized education," Richard says. "They focused on schooling to ensure I would be able to achieve more than they were able to."

For Richard and his wife, Liz, their two poodles are constant companions who are jokingly considered "people in fuzzy bodies."

...
A World of Experience
Well, anyone who knows Richard Minthorne will tell you that he's not the type to let an opportunity pass him by. Fueled by his parents' advice, Richard set off and accumulated not only formal studies that led to advanced degrees such as his MBA in marketing, but also varied life experiences that make him the man he is today. He soaked in valuable business lessons from an influential mentor while working his way through management ranks at JC Penney & Co. He leapt out of airplanes and developed a strict sense of discipline in his time in the National Guard's "Green Beret" special unit. He applied his business and marketing expertise in corporate America for more than 30 years. And perhaps most rewarding, he brought his parents' vision full circle by becoming a professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Through it all, the common thread was Richard's undying quest for excellence. "I've always had very high standards for myself, and that's a direct result of the lessons my parents taught me as a child. It might sound basic, but I've always lived my life knowing that to be successful, you need to be honest, work hard and always do your very best."

Seeking a New Challenge
After more than 30 years in the corporate world, however, Richard was ready for a new challenge. Combining his marketing savvy and wealth of business expertise with his love for houses and years of local knowledge, he quickly established himself among Northern Virginia's leading real estate professionals. To each transaction, Richard brings a high level of professionalism built on years of experience in the business sector. He also brings a unique philosophy to real estate based on his real-world marketing expertise.

"I'm not a salesperson," he says. "I'm a marketing expert. When you market homes effectively, time on market decreases and the bottom line increases." With more than 20 years of marketing expertise, Richard has what it takes to make your transaction a rousing success.
